Hi, I’m Susan

I love my work: I get to have life-changing conversations with people about the things they hope for, the things that get in the way, the things they are struggling to understand, and the ways they feel stuck. And I’ve seen how our talking can make a difference.

I have been a seeker my whole life, I’ve wrestled with big questions, with loss, disappointment and failure. I have learned a lot about what helps us find peace, connection, creativity and love. I have studied formal academic ideas about human life, and I’ve travelled the world studying spiritual ideas and practices. And then I became a counsellor, so that I could have real life conversations that make a difference for the people I meet.

My Approach

My approach is respectful and collaborative. We start where you are and work together to find ways forward. You may have overlooked or forgotten your own best ideas about yourself and your life, and it is my job to help you reconnect to them. Or perhaps it’s time to create some new ways of thinking about yourself and your relationships that are more life-giving, and I can support you in that.

Tender

We tend to be hard on ourselves. Many of us were raised in an atmosphere of criticism and shame. We don’t know how to go about change without beating up on ourselves or trying to find the strength to drive ourselves harder. Learning to relate to ourselves with tenderness, kindness, and compassion is genuinely transformational.

Buddhist inspired

We can get the benefit of Buddhist teachings without having to become Buddhists. My counselling approach is informed by Buddhist thinking about how we can deal with suffering, loss, failure, or conflict. These ideas can be helpful to anyone, whatever your personal spiritual beliefs are.
