What is Counselling?

  • Non-Judgemental

Many of us have unhelpful ideas about ourselves. We think that who we are is not ok, and that we must change what is wrong or broken in order to have a good life. I will guide you in taking a fresh look at those beliefs. Together we can explore helpful ways forward that are kind, encouraging and doable for you.

  • Focused

Counselling can be a significant cost for people, so it is important that we make good use of our time together. We will talk about what you want to talk about. I will check to make sure we are focusing on what matters, and that we are talking in ways that are helpful to you.

  • Insightful

I won’t tell you what to do because it wouldn’t help — what might be right for me wouldn’t necessarily work for you. Lasting change comes about through your own understanding, insight, and appreciation of yourself, as well as practical steps. I will offer ideas and resources, but more importantly, I will ask good questions to help you get clearer about your own best way forward.

My intention for our communication in a counselling session is that you can feel:

listened to

believed and understood

cared for

encouraged

empowered

lighter

more hopeful
